Note: I’ll be blunt, this post is mainly for archival purposes. One day in the future I’ll look back on this. :)

Back in late February of 2014, I decided to move into a new apartment for multiple reasons, one of those reasons was to get a dog as my place at the time allowed absolutely zero pets. A couple months later after moving in and becoming fully situated, I started looking for a new furry friend to adopt.

Why I ♥ Open Source

A couple of days ago I posted something stating that the Nginx init.d startup script used on many Debian & Ubuntu systems had a bug in it where if you add a comment with “pid” in it, the startup script would be unable to find the correct PID file of Nginx (which is critical for the script to terminate the Nginx process correctly).

So I created a pull request on GitHub on the Dotdeb repository (which many Debian users use as it’s always a bit newer than the main Debian stable repository) for the fix and not even an hour later the maintainer of Dotdeb, Guillaume Plessis, accepted it. As I follow Dotdeb on Twitter, I noticed they did another update (Nginx 1.4.0), so I decided to update one of my main servers. Then I noticed this…

Well, I'm back to blogging!

I know, I know, it has been a very long time since my last blog post. I’m not the type to give excuses, but I have been very busy these last few months:

I am a proud '12 high school graduate

I have been working full-time for one of the best companies I could have possibly ended up at, NetDNA, since early June

I moved out to Los Angeles to work full-time, in-house for NetDNA

... and a bunch more that would take an entire paper to explain

Back into blogging

Either way, I'd like to get back into blogging, as I realized I still have the knack for it after writing a post on the redesign of MaxCDN that I was a part of. As I've been blogging about technology for over four years now, it's not the time to quit blogging altogether, but sadly, I do need to make some serious changes to how I've been blogging.

First thing you might have noticed is this completely new website, that I like to call Srced (pronounced sourced). If you have not taken a look at the about page yet on Srced, basically, this is my development blog. Instead of writing about the latest tech news (which I might still do if I find it interesting), this website will soon enough be filled with my development thoughts. This site can have Linux tutorials, how to set up an ESXi server, explanations on certain technologies, reviews on a new piece of software, et cetera. Basically whatever is on my mind, I’ll take some time to write about it. If I’m learning a new technology and stuck in a loop (hehe, dev joke), I might even post something relating to that problem and how to fix it.

Tech Cores v3 Released - A new web experience!

For the past year, the team here at Tech Cores has been re-imagining the way we consume media. We have selected the people who we believe have helped us the most and would provide the best and most critical feedback.

Together we have rebuilt, from the ground up, the experience involved with online news consumption. Like before, Tech Cores is still based around WordPress but the front end is based around some of the most cutting edge technology available like HTML5 and CSS3. From top to bottom we have completely rethought the viewing experience and as aforementioned we would love for you to take a look.

Tech Cores v2.0 - All New and Redesigned

Two months ago we had this idea of a new Tech Cores; the idea of a full head-on redesign. We took a stab at it on a piece of paper, designed it using industry standard tools, and developed it using too many tools to name.

We've worked our cyber minds off for nearly two months and with that, we were able to produce something unbelievable... Tech Cores v2.0. Quite honestly, none of us administrators saw a redesign coming this year. As my skills increase in web design and development, I become more adept to produce a rich, content-filled website with a slick design made from scratch.

Tech Cores Original Design

Back in November of 2008, I set out on a mission to release my first large web project, Tech Cores. When I planned to do this, I already had a vast amount of knowledge with HTML, CSS, PHP, and SQL. I knew quite a bit of it at the time, so I took those skills and turned it into a website that would become Tech Cores.

For about two weeks, I spent deciding on what I was going to call it. I wanted something under ten characters (TechCores is nine characters), and I wanted something extremely easy to memorize and type in. I'm not even going to post my list of the domain names I was thinking of at the time because to be honest, most of them are ridiculous. But I will say, "Tech Cores" was on that list. I checked if the domain was available, and bought it immediately.

Switchin' Over To Webmail

When it comes to e-mail, I've been using it since the very early days. My first e-mail account was actually hosted by Hotmail, which some people still use today, and was filled with ads. I finally switched over to an e-mail hosted by my ISP, and was able to use an e-mail client with it; in this case, I used Outlook. Ever since then, I've really been using a software-based e-mail client for a long time. The only time when I really use webmail is when I'm not using my own computer.

Blogging Just Got Easier!

Blogging just got easier on Tech Cores! Now, the help of something called XML-RPC and Microsoft's Windows Live Writer makes blogging so much easier! With this piece of software for your Windows-based computer (don’t worry, there are Mac and Linux alternatives), you’re able to post to Tech Cores without opening up a web browser!

When you become a blogger on Tech Cores, you'll receive the information needed in order to blog. And included in that information are the directions to set up this awesome blogging experience! The setup directions are not hard at all!

Sorry for the Downtime: Router Problems

First of all, I have to start out by saying that I am very sorry for not posting any content on Tech Cores for a while. But the thing is, it truly isn’t my fault. When I take a look at all of the problems I have been having in the past few months, what I have had to deal with has honestly been extremely stressful.

What I am saying is that my router, which happens to be a D-Link router (which is not old at all), is a bit broken. The router would not let me access my own website, Tech Cores. But the thing is, Tech Cores is the only website it would not let me access. This, in the long run, is a misfortune to me in many cases. I called up D-Link tech support, and honestly, they had no clue about this issue, and they refused to offer me a new router after I already had a replacement router of the same model. Right now, my router will let me access it. But it didn’t a while back.

Tech Cores Services

Another year has passed, and we all want to hear your personal accomplishments!

For me, I’ll honestly say that 2008 was a very rough year; for many reasons also. But here’s what I’ve gotten done in 2008:

Because I am a webmaster at eSoft Interactive, I manage most of the web-based problems… And one thing I still cannot believe I’ve done is that I did a full restore to another server (a new hosting company). You might be surprised, but when you set up a website, it’s very hard to get the same exact thing on another server (because we have a thing called databases now). This was about a 1-2 week process, and I had to deal with lots and lots of errors. But I did it, and I am very proud of what I’ve done.

Bloggers are Always Welcome!
