Facebook Has Hit 350 Million People - Need for Changes
We all love to use Facebook, at least most of us do. Facebook has been around for five years now; can you believe it? I'll be honest, I've just joined the Facebook gang earlier this year. I love Facebook for all it's social networking capabilities it has. In the very beginning, Facebook's majority of people were students; Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, wanted to change this. Facebook today is now suited for businesses, students, and even adults (you know, your parents most likely have a Facebook account by now).
It has been a great year for making the world more open and connected. Thanks to your help, more than 350 million people around the world are using Facebook to share their lives online. - Mark Zuckerberg
Basically what Mark is saying is that Facebook is so large, that everyone around the world is using it. As a webmaster/web-developer myself, I can speak on how much work goes into these social networking websites. If you want a great example, when President Obama posts a update on Facebook, in a matter of a minute, already ~500 people have liked his status and many have commented on it also. There are 350 million people on Facebook today; think about it, how many people are online when you are? There's so many people on Facebook, that they have to have a very powerful and expensive system to run all of it.
However, as Facebook has grown, some of these regional networks now have millions of members and we've concluded that this is no longer the best way for you to control your privacy. - Mark Zuckerberg
Because Facebook also has a lot of networks, especially regional networks, the size of these networks can get rather large. As Mark said, some of these networks can get so large, that millions of members are listed in to them, which can be bad. Facebook has decided to remove these regi0nal groups to fix that problem.
They also had another thing up their sleeves; privacy. They're making it possible to individually control who can see your content. Which means you'll be able to control who can see your posts and uploads in a separate way. With every post, you'll be able to soon change the privacy settings so maybe...your boss won't see it!
Facebook is making these changes to have a fast and reliable system. They most likely don't want to do this (removing the regional groups), but you don't want Facebook to have downtime or errors, do you?
It's not that big of a deal because I know some of you just try to join as many networks as you can. Do you really use most of the networks anyways? For me, I only use just a few of them.
On that note, I cannot wait to see how Facebook will implement the privacy control settings. What do you think about Facebook's changes? Would love to hear what you think about Facebook's new additions in the comments below.
Stalk me on social media! Any other way would just be creepy…
