Firefox - Really Coming Far

Firefox has for sure come a long way since the first version ever created. I remember using Firefox in the very early stages. It was one of the first to get tabbed browser navigation and even extension support. Firefox has really came a long way throughout the years. Right now, I find Firefox to be a very stable browser to use. Granted that it isn't the fastest mainly because most of the users people pile a lot extensions and themes on top of it; they even expect it to work the same way as it did before.

In the latest creation of Firefox that's coming out from the Mozilla "labs" happens to be Firefox 3.6. If you don't know, 3.5 (current version) to 3.6 is a very large update. I remember when 3.5 first came out; it really was significantly faster than the previous versions.

In 3.6, they are making it so that they will improve/fix the following:

  • Preventing crashes because of faulty third-party software
  • More than seventy languages now
  • Bug fixes to improve performance, stability, and even security features.
  • Speeding up page load times
  • Built in support for Personas
  • The ability to change your theme with one click
  • Improved alerts for outdated plugins
  • Support for full screen video using the <video> tag
  • Support for a different kind of font format - WOFF (no, it's no where near related to a dog :D )
  • Improved JavaScript performance - hope it'll be as fast as Google Chrome
  • Support for the new HTML5, CSS5, and DOM web technologies.

After all of that information, you can check it out for yourself here:

Hopefully it won't be too long until we have the final version on our hands!
